What This Course Is About

Overview

Have you ever stayed silent when your input could have helped? You're not alone. When opposing opinions and feedback aren't welcomed, it can feel unsafe to voice what you think — and the business loses the value of what people know.

Diversity matters to any modern organisation, but it isn't enough to simply hire people of different nationalities, races, genders, and sexual orientations. Everyone needs to feel welcome, safe, and free to be themselves at work. This series works through what that takes in practice: inclusion and respect, inclusive conversations, the words we choose, cultural competence at the organisational level, and leading teams whose members come from different cultural backgrounds.

Each course module averages 25 minutes to complete and includes a post-assessment. Application Activity forms let participants apply the learning to their own scenario and environment. The format is video and text-style self-paced e-learning with self-reflection activities throughout.

Skills You'll Build

What You'll Learn

  • 1 Inclusion and Respect — why hiring for diversity alone isn't enough, and how focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) makes people feel welcome and safe to be themselves — benefiting both culture and the bottom line.
  • 2 Inclusive Communication — why the old advice to leave your personal life at the door is changing, and how fostering inclusive conversations builds belonging by making employees feel heard and respected.
  • 3 Inclusive Language — how to avoid biased or discriminatory phrasing around gender, ability, socioeconomic status and race, and why words that bring everyone into the conversation make the workplace feel safer.
  • 4 Cultural Competence — how organisations build the capacity to value diversity, run self-assessments, manage the dynamics of difference, and adapt to the cultural contexts of the people and communities they serve.
  • 5 Managing Multicultural Teams — how leaders care for and unify teammates from different cultural backgrounds, and what it takes to offer everyone equal opportunity for input and advancement across all departments.
